A three-punch combination in the second half of last year sent national carrier Qantas reeling as ICT expenses rose by AU$20 million.
Qantas will cull 340 technology jobs over the next 15 months as it offshores applications support and maintenance to Indian services companies Satyam and Tata Consulting.
Australian chief information officers are still somewhat nervous about moving IT services offshore, according to the local boss of Indian outsourcer Satyam, who maintains the delivery model's day has nevertheless arrived.
