If Telstra wins the national fibre-to-the-node broadband network contract without an operational separation condition, innovation in the telecommunications industry and the engineering community will take a hit, according to Optus chief Paul O'Sullivan.
The recently published 2020 summit Final Report has recommended that the government looks seriously into the separation of its national fibre-to-the-node provider, echoing repeated calls by rival telcos to break up Telstra if it wins the national broadband network tender.
In a new report commissioned by Optus, analyst group CEG argues that structural separation of any future broadband network would be considerably cheaper to regulate than operational separation.
