TechOne beats Civica to council job

Business software vendor TechnologyOne has scored a deal with Wangaratta city council worth more than AU$1.1 million.

The company will be supplying financials, supply chain, works and assets, property and rating and HR and payroll systems to the council. Wangaratta has 27,000 residents.

The other vendor which competed for the work was Civica, which sells software, consulting and managed services to the public sector.

According to TechnologyOne, it has won more than 70 per cent of local government suite contracts this year, including a contract with the city of Ryde in NSW and the City of Fremantle in Western Australia.

The City of Ryde had been previously with Civica, according to TechnologyOne.

TechnologyOne said it has pounced on the opportunity provided by its rivals' acquisition activity — including Civica which was been bought up by UK private equity company 3i in May — to boost its position in the market.

However Civica has also grown locally recently through the acquisition of Japanese giant Fujitsu's local authorities business in Australia and New Zealand.

In June Civica revealed it had won a deal with Holroyd City Council, a large metropolitan Sydney Council. Civica will implement its own software and act as prime contractor integrating with software from three other vendors.

TechnologyOne has its software in over 220 councils in Australia and New Zealand. Civica's web site says it has its local government product in more than 100 councils across Australia and New Zealand.
